Nintendo president Satoru Iwata revealed during a press conference news that the Wii will go on sale in Japan on December 2 for 25,000 yen ($212). The bundle will include the following items:

  • Wii console
  • Wii remote control strap attachment
  • Nunchaku attachment
  • Wii AC adapter
  • Wii A/V cable
  • Wii stand
  • Wii auxiliary plate?
  • Wii sensor bar
  • Wii sensor bar stand
  • Two AA batteries

An image of the package here. If purchased separately, the nunchaku and classic controller will cost 1,800 yen each ($15), while extra Wii Remotes will cost 3,800 yen ($32).

A total of 16 titles from 10 different companies will be unleashed for the Japanese launch of Wii with 27 total expected by the end of the year. Prices of games will range from 4,800 ($41) to 6,800 yen ($58). These include the following games from Nintendo and third-parties:

Wii Sports will include the five sports of Tennis, Baseball, Bowling, Boxing, and Golf. Shortly after launch (TBA 2006) Pokemon: Battle Revolution (5,800 yen) will be released. Nintendo is also developing a swimming game called Forever Blue. Finally, a title called Yawaraka Atam Juku, a sequel to Brain Training on the Nintendo DS was also announced. Regarding the Virtual Console, Nintendo said that over 30 Nintendo games and 30 PC TurboGrafx/Genesis games will be available before the end of the year. Ten new Virtual Console games will follow every month. Prices for Virtual Console games begin at 500 yen ($4.25) for NES games, 800 yen ($6.80) for SNES games, 1000 yen ($8.50) for N64 games. Gamers can pay by credit card or a Wii point cards.

Nintendo will also be introducing its WiiMenu, the user interface that will give you access to many channels including the MiiChannel, an avatar creation application that lets players create their own character. As well as a NewsChannel for news and ForecastChannel for weather. Additional channels will be announced soon. A PhotoChannel, which can be used to share photos, as well as the Opera internet browser (flash enabled) will also be included. Check out videos of these features here.

Meanwhile, the WiiConnect24 feature which allows the console to be connected to the internet 24 hours a day, will also allow for example, relatives from far away to post messages on your personal calendar/message board. Thanks to xmlsnocat for the translation.
