Nintendo Co., Ltd. has released its quarterly results, and there are several interesting numbers contained within.

  • Sales for the April-December period, representing the first nine months of Nintendo's 2006 fiscal year, saw a 73% increase to 712.6 billion yen (about US$5.9 billion) over the previous year's total of 412.3 billion for the same period.
  • The company said it did meet its target of manufacturing 4 million Wii consoles, but managed to sell only 3.19 million of them—the rest were apparently tangled up in distribution.
  • The company also said it expects to meet its target of shipping 6 million Wii consoles by the end of the fiscal year at the close of March 2007.
  • Nintendo's voluntary wrist strap replacement program is expected to cost the company a little over 1 billion yen in total, including costs already incurred.
  • Nintendo DS has been a sales success for the company, moving 18.88 million units over the the April-December period.
  • Foreign-exchange gains netted 26 billion yen for the company in the April-December period.
  • As of January 24, nearly 1.4 million Wii systems have connected to the Internet, and about 1.5 million Virtual Console games have been sold.
  • As of the same date, over 3.5 million players have connected to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service using their Nintendo DS. These players have racked up over 100 million connections.
