Buoyed by the June 11 introduction of the Nintendo DS Lite, Nintendo DS (including the classic model) sold over 593,000 hardware units in June, according to Next Generation's coverage of the latest U.S. sales numbers from NPD Funworld.

For comparison, the next-highest hardware sales were chalked up by Sony's PlayStation 2 home console at 312,000. Microsoft's Xbox 360 took second place with 277,000 units sold. Supported by these numbers, videogame sales were up a 25% compared to June 2005.
