Reuters is reporting that the Game Boy Micro has launched in Japan today to better-than-expected orders. Nintendo's newest portable console sells for 12,000 yen, or about US$108.

A spokesman for Yamada Denki Co., a discount home electronics retailer, said the Famicom edition is especially popular. A clerk for an electronics store is quoted saying it received advance orders for 70% of the store's stock, noting that when the GBA SP was released, the store sold its entire stock to advance orders.

The Game Boy Micro will launch in the United States on September 19 for $99, followed by its European launch on November 4 for 99 euros. Nintendo expects to sell 4 million units worldwide by March 31, 2006.
